High Adrenaline Sports Don’t Have to be Dangerous

Adrenaline junkies know that there is no better thrill than tackling a black run on skis, parachuting out of an aeroplane or completing a challenging climb then abseiling back down to the bottom. The problem is that with that sort of adrenaline rush comes danger, and even with the best safety measures possible, people are going to get hurt taking part in these sorts of sports. There is definitely a balance to be struck between safety and exhilaration though, and there are a few sports which combine excitement in a safer environment.

Scuba Diving

Once you have mastered the basic skills of using the pressurised air canister and moving around safely under the water, scuba diving is a safe and action packed sport. Diving off the coasts around the UK is very good, with lots of interesting marine life and shipwrecks to explore, but beginners should head to warmer climes and try scuba in the warm waters of the Caribbean or the Mediterranean. Getting started doesn’t have to be expensive; most reputable dive schools will hire out equipment like wetsuits and air canisters to beginners.

White Water Rafting

Still on the water, white water rafting is a great way to enjoy the countryside, have lots of fun and get the heart pumping too. Some of the best white water rafting in the UK is in Wales and Scotland, and this sort of activity is great for families to do together. The amount of effort involved is minimal and all you need to do is concentrate on clinging on to the sides of the raft and not falling into the water. Basic swimming skills are recommended, and life jackets are provided by the operator. Overseas, some of the best white water rafting in the world is on the Colorado River in the USA or on the Zambezi river in Zambia.

Motocross

Picking up the basics of riding a motocross bike is not difficult and nothing quite matches the excitement of riding around in the countryside across obstacles and up and down the hills. Motocross is something you can do on your own, as part of a club or in competition with others. Safety equipment is essential for taking part in motocross, and you will need sturdy clothing and head and neck protection from the latest collections, or from similar manufacturers like One Industries or Thor. Never ride a motocross bike without the correct safety gear.

Paintballing

Every weekend, hundreds of people of all ages spend their time running around the forest in camouflage gear with guns loaded with paint. Paintballing is the ultimate type of “playing soldiers” and isn’t just for men or boys; it’s a great way of building team spirit and keeping fit and is a lot of fun too. There are many different sorts of games which can be played such as capture the flag, most of which require some degree of strategy as well as skill in shooting. Getting filthy by crawling through the undergrowth has never been so much fun.
